Publication of the study results at DSAG-Live: Change Management in SAP transformations

Ben Heigert January 19, 2022

At the end of September, we published the results of our joint study TimeS/4Change: The seven success factors in Change Management for SAP projects at the annual congress of the german-speaking user group e.V., DSAG-Live.

The background to this study was that although migrations to SAP S/4HANA hold great potential for productivity increases, the transformation projects cost a great deal of time, money and nerves – in fact more than necessary. In our experience, this is usually not due to technical difficulties, but to the fact that the changes for the organization and people are not sufficiently taken into account and that too little attention is paid to accompanying these changes. To find out what influence change management has on the success of SAP transformations, we surveyed a total of 182 experts from application companies in writing and in 50 supplementary expert interviews as part of our study.

The study proves a clear correlation between the scope and quality of change management and project success (time, budget, quality). We were also able to identify seven factors of Change Management in SAP transformations that have the greatest influence on project results.

In the entertaining session at the DSAG-Live, we also discussed the key findings of the study concerning the practical experience from the application companies in a lively round with Christine Tussing (Freudenberg), Vali Bluma (Evonik), Benjamin Behnke (Haufe-Lexware), Christian Kammerer (Festo), Sophie Hartmann (DSAG) and Ben Heigert (bbh). A very successful format which will be continued in the coming months via the focus groups of DSAG and bbh.
